STEALING FROM PARKING METERS

Stealing from parking meters is simple. It requires only "stuffing" the coin slot to stop the coins.
With the "open" coin slot, this is easily done with paper or plastic from the street and any sharp object. "Stuffing" until the floor is level to the entrance. This takes 5 to 10 seconds and they can "stuff" 30 meters in 15 minutes.

There are 5 popular stealing techniques or tricks, all quick and simple. ( Don't think I'm teaching anyone to steal, this is well known on the street and teen web sites.)

First in bent paperclips, bent for the coin size, simply "hook" and "pull". Time to steal 3 to 5 seconds
and the trap is reset.

Second is metal tweezers, made from a folded tin-can top, simply "grab" and "pull". Time to steal 3 to 5 seconds and the trap is reset.

Third is the classic coat hanger, ingeniously files points grab the grooved edges of the coin. By grabbing below the full height of the coin, they can extract thru a hole no longer than the coin itself, simply "pinch" and "pull". Time to steal 3 to 5 seconds and the trap is reset.

Forth is the "double sided sticky tape", shop-lifted from any drug store, applied to a strip of tin-can top, simply "press" and "pull". Time to steal 1 second and the trap is again reset.

Fifth is "post vibration", a stealing trick so simple it's hard to explain and even more difficult to believe. I saw a kid do this three times before I realized he was stealing! Harmonic vibration of the post " throws" the coins out. Simply strike the meter, toward the rear, with a glancing blow to vibrate the post, "Strike" and "catch". Time to steal, 1 second and the trap is reset. (Post vibration can cough up three coins at one time!)

Stealing from meters is much easier than it appears. If they remove the plastic there is no evidence of the crime. If they avoid the meter maintenance crews, they can steal for months, 40 meters twice a day! Theft and vandalism are not just, out of service meters and loss of income, when you add " enforcement" and "tickets", you get a very angry public and a complex city problem. METER THIEVES CAN BE STOPPED. All vandalism of this type requires an "open" coin slot. "OPEN" equals "ACCESS" equals 'STEALING" COINGUARD the visible deterrent, protects this entrance. COINGUARD is the only patented, "street proven", faceplate that keeps meters in service.
